How to close a deceased person's T-Mobile account

T-Mobile handles closing a deceased person's account through an online form, or by mail. The steps below are T-Mobile's own published process, taken from its official support pages — this page organizes them so you can see what the provider asks for; it doesn't add to them or recommend any particular action.

What you'll need

  • The account number, email, or phone number on the account

Steps

  1. Back up voicemails and save any greetings first — a transfer or cancellation permanently deletes them.
  2. Decide whether to close the account, transfer one or more lines to an account in your name, or a combination.
  3. Complete T-Mobile's online Cancel or Change Ownership form with the account owner's name, mobile number and date of birth (a death certificate is required for Puerto Rico accounts only).
  4. A member of T-Mobile's team contacts you within 3 business days of review to guide the next steps. If you can't submit online, mail the request to T-Mobile Wireless, PO Box 37380, Albuquerque, NM 87176-7380.

Closing one account is only part of the job — every recurring charge still draws on a card or bank account the estate will eventually claim. HeirLoft reads the recurring charges straight out of an inbox in one pass, so you can see everything that's still billing while you work down the list.
