Close an account

How to close a deceased person's Spotify account

Spotify handles closing a deceased person's account through an online form. The steps below are Spotify's own published process, taken from its official support pages — this page organizes them so you can see what the provider asks for; it doesn't add to them or recommend any particular action.

What you'll need

  • The account number, email, or phone number on the account

Steps

  1. If you can sign in: go to Manage your plan and select "Cancel subscription" — Premium stays until the next billing date, then the account switches to free. Spotify also accepts a cancellation form sent to Spotify.
  2. To remove the account entirely, use "Close your account and delete your data" from the closing-your-account article; Spotify emails a reactivation link valid for 7 days, after which deletion begins.
  3. If you can't sign in, use the Contact us link on the Spotify support site and explain that the account holder has died.
  4. If there is no option to change the plan, Premium is billed through a partner company (e.g. a mobile or internet provider) — cancel via the contact link under Payment on the account page.

Closing one account is only part of the job — every recurring charge still draws on a card or bank account the estate will eventually claim. HeirLoft reads the recurring charges straight out of an inbox in one pass, so you can see everything that's still billing while you work down the list.

Notes

Spotify has no dedicated deceased-account page; the cancel-Premium and close-account articles plus Support are the official path.
